Do you use pit latrines?

Background
Radio Nenah is collaborating with the NGO Trac FM to allow our listeners to voice their opinion. Through radio polls, we want to hear your opinion about important issues! All messages are completely free of charge, and we will not record your number. The responses will later this week be discussed live here on Radio Nenah!

This week we are discussing the use of pit latrines in the Karamoja region. Sanitation and water supply go hand in hand to ensure that the people have a healthy life. Almost 90% of the diseases that affect the human body can be transmitted through open defection. Poor toilet practices result in the spread of preventable diseases like diarrhoea, cholera, and dysentery. In Uganda, there has been a steady increase in the access to improved standards of sanitation and hygiene, but some regions are lagging behind. The Ministry of Water points to the districts of Napak, Kaabong, Moroto, Kotido and Nakapiripiriti as societies practicing open defecation because of lack of toilets.
