Serious citizen; Teenage Pregnancy - Poll 4

What is the most effective way to enable teenage mothers affected by shame to return to school?

38% - Encourage support from parents to complete school after pregnancy.
27% - Educate teachers and students on the harm of shaming teenage mothers.
18% - Provide access to family planning services.
17% - Offer separate study opportunities for teenage mothers.

In our previous poll, we saw that the biggest challenge for girls about going back to school is that they feel ashamed about it. When it comes to teenage pregnancies, girls carry the heaviest burden compared to boys. Yet, both girls and boys are equally responsible for the pregnancy.

Among the 8,332 respondents, a significant majority  A and B (65%) believe that social acceptance and positive feedback from their environment are crucial for getting mothers back to school. This entails recognizing teenage pregnancy as a societal issue, reducing the burden on young mothers, educating the community, and promoting shared responsibility. It also emphasizes holding fathers accountable, both legally and socially, for their role in impregnating teenage girls.

Interestingly, only 17% of the respondents consider separate schooling for young mothers a viable solution. This highlights the need for a community-oriented approach that actively engages youth and fosters open, evidence-based dialogue. Such efforts are essential to addressing the complex social problem of unwanted, unplanned, and teenage pregnancies.
