Radio Pacis in Arua has held numerous rural debates in communities in the West Nile area to raise awareness on the issue of wife battering, as it is commonly referred to. Respondents were asked if they personally knew a woman who had ever been beaten by her husband.
The response was shocking. 85 people said that yes, they knew victims of domestic violence and only 17 answered in the negative.
Radio Pacis uses the data it collects to meet with leaders and community based organizations to tackle issues like this affecting their society.
