The Toro Development Foundation in Fort Portal used Trac FM polls to ask residents what they thought the solution was to alleviate the problem which is contributed to by encroachment on wetlands, and dumping of
polythene bags in open channels.
Hits FM in Fort Portal asked listeners this question: "What
should have high priority to prevent flooding, and clogging of Uganda’s
drainage systems during heavy rainfall?"
Over 400 people responded to the poll question with 27% believing that a law against the usage of polythene should be enforced. 29% want a law against wetland encroachment to be respected and the highest number-42%-believe that the focus should instead be on ensuring that more drainage maintenance equipment be purchased and maintained.
