Do you think it is worthwhile for another university to be built in Soroti to serve the Teso sub region?
BACKGROUND
In an article published in May this year in the Daily Monitor, a banker in Soroti, Godfrey Beinomugisha, raised concern over a presidential pledge made in the 2011 elections that has not been fulfilled-that of building a public university to serve people in the Teso sub region, Karamoja and Lango.
He pointed out that many youth cannot afford to study in the central region due to the high costs of living in Kampala and the high tuition fees. Regions like Tororo, Ishaka, Gulu and Kabale and Bushenyi all have their own universities, some of them sisters of universities in Kampala-like Kampala International University in Ishaka.
However, there are already three functioning Universities in Soroti itself. Two are public universities and one, Soroti University, is private. Public response to the article was that the University should not be built in Soroti, but in another area in the Teso sub-region that has no universities.
