Should the Ministry of Education invest more in sports in the educational curriculum as a career option for students?

Background

According to a story run by the Uganda Radio Network on 25th August 2014, Kipper Luwalo, a senior one student of St Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu district has been accepted into a UK sports academy. In January 2015, he will join Brentford FC academy in the United Kingdom to pursue a career in football.

The UN describes sport as a significant economic force, providing employment and contributing to local development. For winning a gold medal in the last Olympics, for example, Stephen Kiprotich took home over two hundred million shillings.

However, sports in Uganda is currently not a full time career option for many Ugandans due to poor financial resources, which is why Kiprotich was a full time prison guard before he won his medal.
