In your district, how can the Ministry of Agriculture improve the performance of the agriculture sector?
Background
In May 2014, President
Museveni directed cabinet to dissolve the National Agricultural Advisory
Services (NAADS) due to non performance. NAADS
is a government program which was put in place by the NAADS Act in 2001 to
support the transformation of agriculture from subsistence to large scale
commercial farming in the country.
However, farmers are still poor today, and increased
agricultural productivity has not been registered. This is because most farmers
are still subsistence farmers-this is when farmers grow a little bit of
everything for household consumption instead of focusing on one or two activities
for mass production or export.
NAADS has currently been put under the Uganda
People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) to help improve the performance of the
agricultural sector.
