According to an article in the New Vision in February 2013, an employment survey of 11 districts across the country revealed that 62% of Uganda’s youth are unemployed. Other studies bring this figure up to as high as 83% (Wikipedia).
Youth unemployment in Uganda is causing a serious political, economic and social challenge to progress in Uganda.
Only 3.2% of young people have jobs that give them a salary and only 6% of Ugandan youth are self-employed and running their own business. 91% of Ugandans are employed in the informal sector-these are jobs on which taxes are not collected, like market sellers or small scale enterprenuers.
