In 2003, the World Bank launched its Secondary Education in Africa project to improve secondary education as a priority in Africa. But secondary education is still much rarer than primary education across the continent for many reasons: lack of funding for buildings, lack of school fees, and secondary school students are old enough to work to support their families, which are usually poverty stricken.
