How often do you experience load shedding in your region?

BACKGROUND

In addition to Nalubaale power station, in 2002, the Uganda government commissioned the 250MW Bujagali Hydro Power dam. This gave Ugandans a sigh of relief as load shedding used to be widespread.

According to the Electricity Regulatory Authority, other power plants have been developed such as Mpanga Hydro Power Dam, Ishasha Mini Hydro Power Dam and Bugoye Hydro power dam. The Karuma Hydro Power Dam is also in the works as the government of Uganda has  issued several permits to different projects that will ease the increasing power demand in the country.

Before this, limited power generation in the country had affected economic competitiveness as manufacturers and traders incurred high costs of operation using generators which are expensive to operate and maintain.   Thankfully, the Uganda government is currently exploring other sources of power given that the demand for electricity is growing at a high rate of between 10 - 12%.
