As a citizen of Uganda, what is the role you expect from your Members of Parliament?

Background 

Most people in Arua cannot differentiate the roles of the leaders, especially the elected leaders like MPs and LC Vs. During the electioneering process most of them tend to claim the roles that actually are not in their mandate which misleads and confuses voters.

For example, in a bid to get votes, some MPs try to satisfy their citizens’ wants, to the extent of encroaching on their personal finances. An example was the saga in which MPs had borrowed heavily in the course of their work, and banks were threatening to freeze their assets. The president had to bail them out, but he cautioned them to stop borrowing loans to satisfy citizens.

The roles of Members of Parliament are derived from the functions of parliament, which is to make laws for peace, order, development and good governance of Uganda. However, in earlier polls run by Trac FM in Western Uganda, the office of MPs was voted as the least effective of all public offices in the region.
