Do you think the Uganda government should ban primary boarding schools?
BACKGROUND
According
to an article published in the new vision on February 27th
2015, educationists in Uganda have proposed changes in the education
system, including banning boarding schools at the primary level,
which they say has endangered the family development of children.
Professor Abdu Kasozi, the former executive director of the National
Council for Higher Education said that if the Ugandan education
system is to compete with the changing societal demands and the
highly-technology driven world, a revised education curriculum is
needed. He proposes that the government discourages boarding school
at primary level.
The primary years of a child's growth are the most important for
bonding with family and learning proper social behaviors needed in
adulthood. But while some parents put their children in boarding
school because they are too busy to look after them, others do it
because they do not trust house maids and want to protect their
children from negative influences.
