BACKGROUND

The Ministry of Health and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have reported a typhoid outbreak in Kampala and parts of its neighboring districts of Mukono and Wakiso.

The director of general health services, Dr.Ruth Aceng, revealed that so far, two people have been confirmed to have died of the disease while eleven more deaths are still being investigated.

Typhoid is a bacterial disease spread through contaminated food, water and bodily contact. Symptoms usually develop 1–3 weeks after exposure. They include fever, headache, constipation or diarrhoea and AN enlarged spleen and liver. Typhoid fever can be treated with antibiotics.
