Should tax money be spent promoting sports in Uganda?

BACKGROUND

On March 21st 2015, the New Vision reported that the Uganda Tourism Board has partnered with the East Africa Sports Tourism Initiative (EASTI) to create sports skills in the country. The first Sports Tourism Festival was held in Kabale during the Easter weekend.

Aggrey Mwesigwa, the team leader of the festival, told journalists that this is one of the key domestic tourism campaigns across the country aimed towards driving local tourism traffic to Uganda’s diverse tourism attractions.
The Kabale Sports Tourism Festival will be an annual event and is part of a calendar of activities to be hosted around key tourism destinations in Uganda and position Uganda as a preferred sports tourism destination.

The first tourism event included football and netball matches, wrestling, tug-of-war, an endurance run, birding race and mountain bicycle race and a mini marathon.
