Were nude protests a justifiable way for the women to exhibit their anger over alleged Soroti University land grabbing?

Background
980 acres of land were donated by residents for the construction of Teso College Aloet, which then allegedly curved out about 460 acres and donated it to Soroti University. Apparently the Soroti University authorities then went on to encroach onto the land far beyond what had originally been donated to Teso College.

Claims have been made that University authorities recently came with a map that is trying to annex over one hundred and forty acres of land to the university.

The vice chairperson LC1 of Apuuton Aloet village, Francis Okudu said over 300 families could lose their land to the University. He says his office received a letter from the University ordering them not to cultivate crops and bury their dead in the disputed land. Okudu says there are over 50 graves buried on the disputed land since 1970s.

To show their displeasure over Soroti University’s attempt to take over their ancestral land, some women held nude protests, a tact many have deemed abominable.

“We Iteso (Odwe-Oduk) whose major objective is to promote development and culture of Teso are saddened and ashamed to learn that our noble and gracious mothers and sisters in Otucopi village, Soroti district found themselves in a compromising position of using abominable means to express their dissatisfaction at the manner in which their land issues were handled,” said Emuria Koliai from Teso. “Seeing a mother or sister naked in the Iteso culture is treated as an abomination as this is believed to attract irreversible curses. Land is indeed a highly cherished resource amongst the Iteso and this could have been one of the reasons why these people were forced to go into these extremes,” he added.
