STA11:Why do you think the average ugandan household has many children?
Background
In a few months you will have the chance to vote,
and we want to know what issues matter to you in these elections. That
is why we are working together with 10 other radio stations throughout
Uganda. Together, we are asking people about issues that matter. Join
the debate by sending in your opinion. This week we're discussing population.
The last census established that Uganda's population currently stands at 37.58 million people. Uganda currently has the highest growth rate in the world! On average 6.9 children are born per family compared to 2.7 children per family worldwide. If the population continues to grow at this rate, there will 130 million Ugandans by 2050. This is causing a strain on the economy and a concern for future employment and sustainability of development.
