MEGA STA2.30: Do you think Sexuality Education should be taught in schools?
Background
sexuality Education broadly covers various aspects of relationships between girls and boys, HIV prevention and treatment, body changes including menstrual hygiene and life skills.
In Uganda, access to Sexuality Education is largely through peers, relatives and the media. However this information is usually misguided and sometimes inaccurate.
Many parents do not feel comfortable to discuss Sexual and Reproductive Health issues with their adolescent children because it is culturally a taboo to discuss such issues openly with young people.
As a result, teenage pregnancies and child marriages remain very common in Uganda. According to a report by UNFPA, the rate of teenage pregnancy in Nothern Uganda stands at 25.6% percent compared to the national average of 24 percent.
