Background:
Ministry of Health acknowledges that Maternal and Child Health care services is a cost effective means to lower maternal mortality rates given that it reduces the risk of exposure to pregnancy as well as reduce the incidence of unsafe abortions. Reproductive, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) is among the four cluster areas that the Health Sector Strategic and Investment Plan (HSSIP) 2010/11 - 2014/15 envisioned improved interventions across. Uganda has a high fertility rate at 5.4, high teenage pregnancy rate at 25% and high maternal mortality rate at 336 deaths per 100,000 live births due to child birth related complications.
