Background

Recent reports indicate that more than half of Kenya’s population only has access to unsafe drinking water from ponds, shallow wells, and rivers. The Kenya National Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation wants 80% of the Kenyan population to have access to safe and adequate water by the year 2022. Kajiado county falls within arid/ drylands in Kenya and competition for water for various uses especially during droughts is very stiff.
