DELTA SC 1.3 | How can customary practices best be reformed to improve women’s inheritance rights?

Background

The Succession Amendment Act 2022 is a new national law giving women equal rights with men in inheriting the properties of their parents or spouse. The act should improve women’s access to land. Land  is a key resource for agricultural production and can also be used to get loans to invest in business. The biggest challenge for women to own land is that most customary/traditional  practices regarding inheritance rights favour men when it comes to inheriting and owning family land.

We will discuss this topic during our live ‘Serious Citizen Talk Show’ [NAME THE DATE AND TIME OF YOUR TALKSHOW]. We would already like to hear from you in our poll!
