Whom do you think is to blame for the increased reduction in the coffee quality in Kasese district?
DESCRIPTION
Kasese
district has always ranked second to Mbale in coffee production. The
problem at stake is that the production is deteriorating.
The
coffee production is facing a lot of challenges. When the market prices
come down, it is the farmer that suffers the price cuts.
There
have been reports some quality of coffee has been greatly compromised:
some people mix coffee with stones, others dry coffee before it is ripe/
ready.
The
Uganda Coffee Development Authority blames the reduction in quality of
coffee on middlemen (coffee traders) who they say mix coffee with
stones. The middlemen also blame the farmers for picking unripe coffee
beans.
