What is the major cause of teenage pregnancies in Teso sub region?

BACKGROUND:
Dr. Lubega Kazooba, senior health officer in Mbarara, Uganda, described the country’s teenage pregnancy rate as ‘alarming’.

The rate of teenage pregnancy in the country now stands at 30%. Dr .Lubega said that, even though it is not good for a woman to delay giving birth too much after 35 as she is likely to face a lot of problems, Ugandan teenagers as young as 11 are becoming pregnant.

He attributes this to early marriages, dropping out of school, and rape, which puts girls at a high risk of contracting HIV. He says this highlights the need to advocate for teenage girls’ sexual and reproductive health (SRH) so that they are able to live healthier lives.
