The International Women's Day is commemorated on 8th March every year. This year the national celebration was conducted in Nakasongola district.

On that day, President Museveni awarded medals to many prominent women politicians in recognition of their contribution to emancipation of the women of Uganda.

Among those who received the awards were Honorable Grace Akello and Honorable Alice Alaso who hail from Teso region.
