BACKGROUND:
Government is seeking a law that could ban miniskirts in the country.
If passed, putting on a mini skirt would lead to an arrest or lead to a heavy fine.The
bill points out there has been “increase in [indecent] materials in the
Ugandan mass media and dirty dancing in the entertainment world”, there
is need to establish a legal framework to regulate such vices.”
According
to the bill, if one is found guilty of abetting [indecency], he or she
could face a fine of Shs10 million under the draft law titled: The
Anti-[indecency] Bill, 2011 or a jail stint not exceeding 10 years, or
both.
