In your opinion, do you think the teachers should go ahead and strike over poor salary?

BACKGROUND:

Teachers have threatened to lay down their tools at the beginning of the third term if government fails to raise their pay by 50% as initially hoped, The Observer has learnt.
Meeting at the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) offices in Kampala recently, the teachers expressed anger that government had faulted on its 2011 promise to raise their pay by 50% in this financial year’s budget.
However in the last budget, finance minister Maria Kiwanuka announced that government has allocated sh5b in the next financial year to encouraging savings, improve access to credit and uplift the welfare of teachers.
"I have allocated a total of sh5b to support teacher SACCOs across the country," finance minister Maria Kiwanuka said.

Even though a number of people agree that teachers deserve a better salary, many people are also aware that if teachers go on strike the parents and students are the ones who will suffer most.

Two weeks ago President Museveni asked the teachers to remain patient and that the issue of their salary will be addressed soon.
