Which of the following forms of child abuse is common in your district?

BACKGROUND:
Last week we were talking about your understanding of Children's rights based on how children are treated in your community.

Even though majority of the people who responded to our SMS poll said that they have an average understanding of children's rights, a very significant number of people said that they don't know what children's rights means.

While we were still at that another incident happened: a woman in Akuya-Gweri Village in Soroti was arrested for beating her son to death over the theft of an egg.

Today we are going to explore forms of child abuse and try to findout which ones are more common in your district.

  • Sexual abuse/sexual misconduct: Any sexual act or sexual threat imposed on a child or young person
  • Physical abuse: Non-accidental injury and/or harm to a child or young person, caused by another person such as a parent, care-giver or even an older child.
  • Emotional abuse: Behaviours that may psychologically harm a child or young person.
  • Neglect: Failing to provide a child or young person with basic physical and emotional necessities, harming them or putting them at risk of harm.
