What kind of effect does the anti-pornography law have on your district?
BACKGROUND:
The Anti-Pornography Bill creates the offense of pornography, which is
blamed for sexual crimes against women and children including rape,
child molestation and incest.
It outlaws anything that shows sexual parts of a person.
In downtown Kampala and other parts of the country, some people
took the law in their own hands and undressed women and a few young men
who were found wearing mini-skirts or sagging pants.
The chairman, Uganda Human Rights Commission Mr. Kaggwa said:
"We are condemning the recent reports of beating and stripping women for
purportedly wearing miniskirts, dresses and trousers arising out of the
recent enactment of the Anti-pornography law.”
Women’s rights organizations organised a protest against
harassment and attacks that have followed the signing of the
Anti-Pornography Bill.
