Trac FM, in partnership with Health Action International (HEPS), aims to increase awareness and uptake of COVID-19 testing services in Uganda. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the country, especially on the most vulnerable populations, and there has been a disruption of health services due to global supply chain disruptions and service delivery challenges. Despite efforts to contain the spread of the virus, many low-income countries, including Uganda, have struggled to increase COVID-19 testing services, which has affected the country's ability to meet global targets.
HEPS conducted a survey to assess public awareness and attitudes toward COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccination. Based on the survey findings, HEPS and Trac FM will conduct interactive radio talk shows to increase public awareness and understanding of the importance of COVID-19 testing, to dispel myths and misconceptions related to testing and treatment, and to increase uptake of COVID-19 testing services in Uganda. Through the use of interactive radio talk shows and opinion polls, the project aims to accelerate COVID-19 testing in the country, helping to meet global testing targets and mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the most vulnerable populations.
