Hearing Somali Voices - Free Press Unlimited & Trac FM

Since 2014, Trac FM enabled 80.000 Somali citizens to send over 370.000 SMS messages to their favourite radio talk-shows. Topics related to security, employment, refugees, donor aid and local river flooding were discussed.


11 popular radio stations in Somalia are now using the Trac FM method to get in touch with their listeners. Participants become part of the debate at hand and can vote on possible solutions, give their opinions and report their experiences. 

Participation has soared to over 4000 respondents within the hour. Poll results inform decision makers on all levels, especially when they are invited to participate in the live talk-shows.

Topics such as migration, family planning and malaria have already been discussed. Somali people from all regions of the country can now make their voices count through live radio talkshows and SMS polls.
